For Kim, alienation is not simply being left out. It is the constant pressure to conform, the silent habit of hiding one’s true thoughts and dreams in order to fit into society’s expectations. He describes it as a form of oppression that begins when difference becomes discomfort — when having a unique dream is treated as something to be corrected, not celebrated.
The artist draws from his own experiences of growing up and studying abroad, where he was often misunderstood or dismissed for being different. From being criticized for his fashion choices to being stereotyped because of his background, Kim recalls how easily individuality can become a target. Through this exhibition, he visualizes those emotions — frustration, fear, and resistance — and transforms them into forms, colors, and textures that carry both pain and clarity.
Each piece in ALIENATION reflects the emotional tension between wanting to belong and needing to stay true to oneself. The works speak not only about isolation, but also about awareness: the moment when silence turns into understanding. Through painting, Kim faces his past and reclaims the voice that was once suppressed.
ALIENATION delivers a message of comfort and courage to those who have been ignored, overlooked, or forced to give up their dreams. The exhibition invites viewers to see difference as a form of strength — a reminder that individuality should never be a reason for shame, but a reason for pride.

《소외 : 개인이 무시당하는 사회》는 작가 김준하의 첫 번째 개인전이자, 작가로서의 정체성과 세계관을 본격적으로 드러내는 데뷔전이다. 이번 전시는 작가가 유년기와 청소년기를 거치며 경험한 ‘소외’라는 감정의 본질을 탐구하고, 그것이 개인과 사회에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 시각적으로 제시한다.
작가에게 ‘소외’란 단순히 공동체 안에서 배제되거나 따돌림당하는 상태를 의미하지 않는다. 그것은 개인의 신념, 꿈, 혹은 고유한 이데올로기가 다수와 다르다는 이유만으로 억압받고 불편함을 감내해야 하는 사회적 악습을 뜻한다. 이러한 ‘소외’는 사회가 개인의 다양성을 포용하지 못하고, 오히려 획일화된 기준으로 사람을 판단할 때 발생하는 구조적 문제임을 작가는 지적한다.
작가는 오늘날의 사회가 개인의 내면적 가치보다는 ‘재능’과 ‘성과’라는 외적 기준을 우선시하며, 그 결과 개인의 의견과 꿈이 쉽게 무시되는 현실을 비판한다. 특히 청년 세대가 사회적 시선과 불안 속에서 스스로의 꿈을 포기하도록 강요받는 현상에 주목하며, 이를 “젊은 세대가 겪는 또 다른 형태의 소외”로 정의한다.
이번 전시를 통해 작가는 소외와 억압 속에서도 자신의 꿈을 지켜내려는 이들에게 위로와 용기의 메시지를 전하고자 한다. 작품 속에 담긴 감정과 서사는 단순한 위로를 넘어, 각자가 품은 꿈과 신념이 사회적 평가나 기준에 의해 흔들리지 않기를 바라는 작가의 간절한 소망을 담고 있다.
나아가 작가는 이 전시를 통해 우리 사회가 개인의 꿈과 관심사를 “성공의 가능성”이라는 잣대로만 평가하지 않기를 바란다. 서로의 차이를 비판하거나 억압하기보다는, 다양성을 인정하고 긍정적인 에너지를 나누는 사회적 분위기가 조성되기를 희망한다. 《소외 : 개인이 무시당하는 사회》는 그러한 바람 속에서, 잊혀진 개인의 목소리를 다시 세상 앞으로 불러내는 작가의 선언이자 제안이다.
